Ooh, I might just have to write my first fanfic/AU that's not wattpad commissioned in my terrifying youth. A few brain mumbles about the servants seeing everything in the castle, and just a little extra help, magical or not, to get Merlin and Arthur communicating. Wrote this and realized...hey that's Gwynevere! (although perhaps a bit more mysterious 🤭)

"She is always up in the rafters and roofs of the castle. She sees all the gossip-y events in real time but does not know the concept of secrecy. It's something that happened, yes? Why should she need to speak of it again? The solutions to people's problems and balms to their emotional afflictions mysteriously appear shortly after such an event.

A whitling knife on your dressing table encouraging you to fix that beloved now shattered wood carving. She is not your crutch, you are capable. A bright and smooth ribbon, a curled snail shell, and a chunk of sandstone bring reminiscence and tears to a blinded lover of the sea. A reminder that beauty is accessible through other senses.

They know it is most likely Gwynevere. Gwynevere, named for blessings, protection, and wisdom. She was always a climber, reaching dangerous heights in trees and tresses to view the ongoings of life below. A kindness to her that never wore and a curiosity that lent intelligence with time. Refreshing transparency and an honesty that only came from someone who had never felt compelled to lie. Why should she assume people will not say what they mean? Even when they attempt to bury their meaning, it is still visible, is it not?

It is an unspoken rule of the townspeople. Treat your suspicion as she treats secrecy. (Sideplot about Merlin's "scret" magic.) She is beloved and any who go against her heart have threatened the very heart of the kingdom.

magic reveal where arthur doesn't say a word and starts walking away and then merlin is at his heel calling for him, pleading with him to talk, to let him explain everything, begging for him to turn around and look at him, his voice breaking with grief. arthur has never been able to deny merlin anything and turns but he is still hurt and angry and merlin can see it in his eyes before he even opens his mouth to spew accusations. merlin stands, demure, as he shakes his head yet he doesn't say anything - fallen silent under arthur's rage. arthur walks away and around a corner, merlin doesn't follow. merlin breaks down into heartbroken tears and sobs and arthur is just around the corner, leaning on the wall for support, and listening to merlin fall apart.

Thinking about Guinevere again and how I don't think u can separate her from the fall of Camelot. Like a thing like that blots your copybook forever. Even in the nunnery, she must've been praying for God to end her torment, to stop herself from weeping constantly, to just dampen her emotions so she could try and live with this whole in her heart, this open wound, this stigmata she's got that she can't get back.

I wonder when she and Lancelot crossed paths again after all those years once he'd taken her to the nunnery, after everything that had happened, after her damming everything up in her heart, if it all broke open again like a winter frost being carved into.

She's one of the final remnants of a bygone age. A jewel in a casket. Something to be picked over. Admired and castigated for her follies in one fell swoop.

She's a white phantom.

Nothing.

Everything.

Your Merthur fanart is amazing! I LOVE the way you capture their expressions!!! If you've got the spoons might I request Arthur seeing Merlin in a wedding dress and being absolutely poleaxed because since when was Merlin hot- (they're idiots in love your honor). You capture their entire like. Fundamental dynamic SO WELL; your art is expressive and beautiful and I love it.

Man I hate people that go even though it makes sense that Merlin and Morgana should be together due to the formulaic romance and how the other two main leads were paired together, it still wouldn't go well with each other because the two of them are clearly gay 🙄 like bitch that's your opinion, there's nothing in the narrative that indicated either Morgana or Merlin were ever gay. And they didn't despise each other from the get-go, it happened once Morgause entered the picture and due to Kilgarrah's manipulation on Merlin to kill Morgana due to her destiny of being a villain. The show was setting up Morgana to be a bad guy from the get-go and sadly Merlin had put up the bare minimum of resistance on that despite his insistence on Morgana being his friend. Sadly, there isn't all that many scenes of the two interacting or of Morgana interacting with Arthur and Gwen especially once Arthur and Gwen start their relationship and Morgana discovers she has magic. It's almost like she's distancing herself from everyone, but you'd think she'd be keener to keep contact with Merlin since he's the only one who knows she has magic but nah. It could be he steers clear of her due to Kilgarrah's words affecting him. Anyway, the next episode will bring back Mordred again and Kilgarrah will be saying the same garbage he keeps spewing while once again Merlin will stop another plot to liberate those who have magic.
